It’s important to disinfect your home regularly to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Here are the basics you need to know about disinfection and why it’s necessary for keeping your family safe.

Know the Difference.

Cleaning removes dust, debris and dirt from a surface by scrubbing, washing and rinsing.
Sanitizing reduces the bacteria identified on the product’s label on surfaces and in the laundry.
Disinfecting destroys or inactivates both the bacteria and viruses identified on the product’s label (like influenza and rhinovirus) on hard, nonporous surfaces.

Disinfecting hard, nonporous surfaces is one of the most reliable ways to help lower the risk of spreading germs from surfaces by touch.

Why Disinfecting Is Important.

Remember that you should disinfect – not sanitize – because disinfectants are the only products approved by the EPA (US Environmental Protection Agency – https://www.epa.gov) to kill viruses on hard surfaces. The main difference is that EPA-approved sanitizers only have claims for bacteria, while disinfectants have claims against both bacteria and viruses.

When to Disinfect.

While in quarantine, it’s important to disinfect the hard, nonporous surfaces throughout your home at least 3 times per day. If someone in your household has COVID-19 or shows symptoms, disinfect the high-touch surfaces in the areas they enter as frequently as possible.

26pc corona rate recorded in Karachi

KARACHI/ISLAMABAD: Terming the Covid-19 situation in Karachi as alarming, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah directed the IGP Sindh and Commissioner to ensure timely closure of all the businesses by 6 in the evening and constituted a ministerial committee to sensitise all the stakeholders, including shopkeepers, traders, transporters and politicians to cooperate with the government in the supreme interest of the public health, otherwise nothing will remain under control. In Karachi, the detection rate was recorded at 26.32 percent on July 26.

Amid a sharp rise in Covid-19 cases in the province, Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has issued directives to ban unnecessary movement after 6pm. The orders were issued during a meeting of the Provincial Task Force on Tuesday after reviewing the latest pandemic situation. He urged people to stay home and avoid going out without any valid reason.

Federal govt released over Rs.9bn for Karachi’s development, claims Ali Zaidi

Denying the impression that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) did nothing significant for the development of Karachi despite winning a majority of seats from the city in the last general elections, Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Ali Zaidi on Sunday said the federal government had released funds amounting to more than Rs9 billion for various development projects in the metropolis.

He was addressing a press conference at the Insaf House where former Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) chief Sharafuddin Memon announced his decision to join the PTI.
